UNIT 6: Feedback From Other Students

After finishing my video I showed it to a few friends and family, I showed it to my friends Joe and Sebastian in a Media lesson, They gave really good feedback but they said I should have added a few things: At the end of the film I should have added a song or soundtrack in the background of the chase scene because it would have added to the tension in the scene. The ending of the film is very dramatic because someone gets hurt and the truth is revealed, so it needed some kind of music in the background or else it would have been very dull and anti climactic. The kind of music I would have used is something by Hans Zimmer or John Williams who composes for action films.

They also said I should have made it shorter. I was supposed to make a 3 to 4 minute long video. My turned out to be nearly 7 minutes. I think I should have made it shorter as well by taking out some of the dialog in the middle of the film. I could have also shortened the chase scene at the end. The dialog went on for a while and I felt like I was repeating myself a little in the story. I would have cut out bits to make it shorter but still keep the sense of what was going on.

The good stuff about it was the camera angles and the acting, I used a lot of over shoulder shots because thee was a lot of dialog. There was also a lot of running camera and close ups for reaction shots. The camera wasn't the best and the lighting and darkness contrast wasn't the best because of the camera settings however some of the perspective long shots were pretty good and short of professional according to some viewers.

I also liked the writing, coming up with ideas and getting my actors to become those characters. I also enjoyed the Recce I carried out and the locations I decided. Sadly I didn't have time to do a story board and I did rush making the film. The story board helps you remember the scenes and where to place your characters. I could have spent more time filming than I did editing. Make sure I make a story board and spend a little more time looking at the camera settings.

Back in December when I started, I originally planned to have a character called Jake but I changed the name to Dean Jombs because its an anagram of 'James Bond' and I thought that would be clever. I originally planned filming in a school hall to do some of the takes between Dean and Adam. Sadly the hall I wanted to book out was being painted so I was unable to book it out in the end. I did manage to get a few takes done but not many. So I had to cut a bit of the script out and change some of it so that it was in a different location, I also had to add a few takes in because of this. Filming days did change because of the weather. Next time I plan to film I will watch the weather to try and find days that the weather is good for the scene. So overall things did change when filming and planning. Characters changed, locations, the script changed a bit. These are all things I would improve on next time. Those are the things I would fix if I was given this task again. Also to cut down the long dialogue.

Things  I would have added would be more clear dialogue because the story was confusing in areas and I did take a few lines out that I really shouldn't have. Sadly the film was only allowed to be 2-3 minutes long so I had to try really hard to cut it down. In the end the video was about 7 minutes long which wasn't good. So I would have add more lines if there wasn't a time limit.

Evaluation: Review My Work And Others

My short animation is good in some areas but I fill like it was very rushed. Its very short and the text is said very quickly. I had to get it done very quickly because of the deadline day. Really I should have done more work outside of College and planned well in advance. This impacted the on the colour which I was planning on adding but rushed it. The only thing in colour is the phone which flashes from blue to green to red to yellow. This sort of works to the point that I was making. It draws attention to the phone which stands out from the greys, blacks and whites.

Some people commented that I made the most of the fact that I'm not the best a drawing but I managed to get character between the different stick people. I think it works really well but could have had more detail on the faces and body to add more expression. However for the purpose of the project, the information is all there and technology works as a short animation.

I asked Kat what she thought and she said 'It was good but short and a little rushed"

After Kat reviewed mine, I reviewed hers: her's was a lot shorter than mine which was a disadvantage but still good. The message was clear and simple. Nothing really bad about it. Seemed like a really good video.

When I started making my animation I didn't really know what to do. I started by putting together the background and coming up with the characters and what they would say. I spent a lot of time testing mouth movements for my characters but in the end I didn't have the features due to the little amount of time, also because it would have been quite complex.

I would have liked to add sound effects but ran out of time. If I could go back I would have added them. I would have added background sound effects of people talking, footsteps and dialog. Also maybe sound effects coming from the phone would drawn your attention to the phone and created humour.

Next time I make an animation I will work on colour and I'll put more time into it. Won't rush it and I'll add sound effects. I enjoyed it (even if I was rushed) I would have liked more time on it. I liked watching videos showing how to do walking animations and I learn't a bit more about Flash and how to create characters.

Textual Analysis & My Plan

I have looked at different posters and studied what is good and what is bad about them, I have plans to make a survey either in surveymonkey.com or in Google Forms. I am also hoping

I have found out about many different parities and why they use certain posters.

Analysis Of Requirements

The main issue and problem is that they want to find out why young people aren’t reading their magazines or going on the web site and they want to encourage them to do that by having young people from City of Bath College to come up with ideas for articles that young people should hopefully enjoy. Young people from City of Bath College will be sent out to find stories around Bath. It turns out that the age range of people who read the Chronicle is between 16-35 and they have 57,000 readers.

      Colour Theory Harmony

      Complementary
Colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel are considered to be complementary colors
The high contrast of complementary colors creates a vibrant look especially when used at full saturation. This color scheme must be managed well so it is not jarring.
Complementary colors are tricky to use in large doses, but work well when you want something to stand out.
Complementary colors are really bad for text.

      Analogous
Analogous color schemes use colors that are next to each other on the color wheel. They usually match well and create serene and comfortable designs.
Analogous color schemes are often found in nature and are harmonious and pleasing to the eye.
Make sure you have enough contrast when choosing an analogous color scheme.
Choose one color to dominate, a second to support. The third color is used (along with black, white or gray) as an accent.

      Triad
A triadic color scheme uses colors that are evenly spaced around the color wheel.
Triadic color harmonies tend to be quite vibrant, even if you use pale or unsaturated versions of your hues.
To use a triadic harmony successfully, the colors should be carefully balanced - let one color dominate and use the two others for accent.
      Split-Complementary
The split-complementary color scheme is a variation of the complementary color scheme. In addition to the base color, it uses the two colors adjacent to its complement.
This color scheme has the same strong visual contrast as the complementary color scheme, but has less tension.
The split-complimentary color scheme is often a good choice for beginners, because it is difficult to mess up.

      Rectangle (tetradic)
The rectangle or tetradic color scheme uses four colors arranged into two complementary pairs.
This rich color scheme offers plenty of possibilities for variation.
The tetradic color scheme works best if you let one color be dominant.
You should also pay attention to the balance between warm and cool colors in your design.

      Square
The square color scheme is similar to the rectangle, but with all four colors spaced evenly around the color circle.
The square color scheme works best if you let one color be dominant.
You should also pay attention to the balance between warm and cool colors in your design.

My Storyboard For Steve Animation Project

I did try to scan it in on the day I made it but it didn't work so I took a photo of it. Hopefully It helps
